When thinking about driving the first thing that probably comes to mind is a long, exhausting commute and sitting behind the wheel for hours in traffic. However, imagine if instead of sitting behind the wheel wasting precious time you could get countless things done. At first thought, this sounds nearly impossible, but it is a real option with the growing technology of self-driving cars. Self-driving cars are a modern, rapidly increasing technology!
LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONCERNS
Although self-driving cars seem to be the perfect invention, there are some aspects of these vehicles that should be evaluated. Issues begin to arise when these autonomous vehicles get into car accidents. The problem of who is to blame for these mishaps causes legal and ethical concerns.
SECURITY CONCERNS
Along with self-driving vehicles comes security concerns. The main security issue for driverless cars is their cybersecurity. According to the article Five Components of Autonomous Car Security there are five main aspects of driverless car’s security that need to be protected which include: Image Recognition Systems, Object Detection Systems, Semantic Segmentation Systems, Voice Recognition Systems, and LiDAR (Polyakov, 2019).
Benefits and Risks of Self Driving Cars
With this new technology of self-driving vehicles there are several benefits and risks associated. A huge problem in the United States is the increase in deaths on the road due to human error and bad judgement. According to a scholarly article Public health, autonomous automobiles, and the rush to market, 1.25 million deaths per year are a result of crashes involving what they refer to as “driver behavior” (Kelley, 2017). With the use of autonomous vehicles, these mindless collisions can easily be prevented.
